Abbot's Hill School

Back in 2010, Abbot's Hill School set out on a task to raise £5,000 for the Trust. Not only did they reach their target, they went beyond this and raised over £6,500 for Dame Kelly's charity!

Their fundraising initiatives, which were all student-led, took place throughout the year.

One girl took it upon herself to create and sell finger puppets, where she single-handedly raised £40 for the Trust. Another decided washing cars was the best course of action, and raised £30.

A fun-run was also organised, and this was something in which the whole school took part.

Throughout all the activities and initiatives, the school really came together and worked as a team to reach their fundraising goal.

The school's fundraising culminated in a visit from Dame Kelly in June. The school presented Dame Kelly with a cheque and she also officially gave her name to the school's sports hall.

Abbot's Hill School Headmistress Kerstin Lewis said: "Dame Kelly is inspirational! We are all honoured that she has given her name to our new Sports Hall and took time to visit us. The girls were thrilled to meet her."

The school even made one final push! Year 5 became entrepreneurs and started their own biscuit companies - they researched, formed, ran and maintained the companies, and donated the profits (over £160!) to Dame Kelly's charity. Starting a business from scratch is no easy task, but it seems the girls of Abbot's Hill found the right recipe for success

Fortunately none of the companies crumbled under the pressures of running a business!
