Andy Lunnon, from Reading, completed the DKH Legacy Trust's Get on Track programme in 2010.
Lacking employment, self-belief, determination, confidence and any goals, Get on Track proved a real turning point for Andy, who has since gone on to make great strides in both his personal and professional life.
Get on Track gave Andy a real sense of direction. Having spent 12 weeks being mentored and supported by the Trust's team of world-class athletes, Andy decided his future laid health and fitness industry.
With competition for employment in this industry extremely tough, Andy was under no illusions that this would require a great deal of hard work, discipline and motivation; all attributes associated with Get on Track.
Andy's initial plan was to become a Personal Trainer, where he gained his REP level 2 qualification before undergoing a placement in a local gym.
Having realised personal training wasn't for him; Andy refused to give up and remained positive. Through a DKH Legacy Trust networking event, Andy was introduced to an NHS-based company, Eat4Health, who aim to help those with obesity issues as well as emphasising the importance of a healthy lifestyle.
Andy has gone on to lead volunteering sessions here, studying for GP referral training which is a huge part of the REPS level 3 qualification.
Andy's commitment to chasing his dream has been commendable. Alongside volunteering, placements and training, Andy has secured part-time work at ASDA, which may provide a platform for his future plans.
"I hope to one day perhaps work together with ASDA and Eat4Health in helping raising awareness about obesity."
Andy has since gained the eat4health instructor qualification, enabling him to lead classes at local GP surgeries. Taking this independent approach to his working life has opened up so many doors for Andy.
"I also have set myself up as self-employed and I can now approach gyms for freelance work to top up my earnings by covering sessions or working with any disabled clients."
"It's not just my working side that's changed; I have lost over 3 stone and my health is a good as it's ever been. I am waking up with a smile every day and have the confidence to stand up in front of groups of people and tell my story. I said that Get on Track had changed my life and I stand by that statement today."
