AQA Unlocking Potential
AQA is a leading educational charity and the leading provider of GCSEs and A-levels.
Their aim is to help people achieve their potential; that's why we're working in partnership to offer 20 young people aged between 14 - 19 years from across the UK the opportunity to participate in a unique mentoring programme delivered by our world-class sports performers during 2012.
We have created the Unlocking Potential programme to help bring out the best in young people so that they can achieve their full potential. The programme will take a special group of young people on a personal journey that will:
- develop their skills and knowledge
- increase their confidence, self-belief and motivation
- raise their aspirations and encourage them to aim high in life
Teachers and youth leaders will nominate young people who meet the criteria and would benefit most from the programme.
The judging panel, made up of representatives from the world of education and industry as well as representatives from AQA and the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust, will select 20 young people to take part.
The successful nominees will get the chance to work with and learn from the DKH Legacy Trust's team of inspirational athlete mentors. The mentors know what it takes to overcome adversity and still have the will to succeed, not only in sport, but in life too. So this programme is not aimed specifically at potential future sports stars, but at any young person who needs an inspirational helping hand.
The selected young people will take part in a number of national events and one-on-one mentoring sessions between May and October 2012. Every community has its own issues, whether it's access to public transport, places for young people to go, anti-social behaviour or recycling. So, with support from their mentor, the participants will also run and deliver a social action project that will make a positive impact in their local community.
