Running exclusively at the Univeristy of Bedfordshire, Unlocking Potential is an education and mentoring programme for young people (aged 13-18) who need help in their lives to realise their sporting dreams. Whether the dream is to play for their local club or represent their country, so many young people have their sights set on making it in sport.
Like many things in life, success is a culmination of being spotted by the right people at the right time. However challenges such as lack of information, no access to travel, lack of funds/kit and parental support are barriers many young people in sport face in their attempt to reach the next level. These barriers are not helped when young people are faced with physical (late maturity, young in their year and inappropriate nutrition), psychological (mental strength, focus and social skills) and communication (with team mates, coaches, parents and selectors) challenges.
Unlocking Potential is a project which works with young people who may be encountering these challenges and helps them to meet their challenges now in the future. These skills will not only be beneficial in their sporting aspiration but in their life.
