We were back in Reading for our second Get on Track, where we once again worked with the John Madejski Academy as we aimed to get 17 young people back into employment, education or training.
Running from the beginning of March through to the end of May, the DKH Legacy Trust flagship project saw a range of young people go on quite a remarkable journey throughout their time on the programme.
The young people were fortunate enough to be working with a great group of athlete mentors, who really used their experiences in international sport to inspire the group. Adam Whitehead, Jenna Downing, Neil Danns and Mike Mullen their skills to their full effect throughout the programme.
As with all Get on Track projects, community project work was a key component of the course. The group's first task saw them at the Reading Half Marathon before they spent a day at the Heathrow Special needs Farm, in a volunteering and maintenance project that proved a turning point for many of the recruits.
The project finished with the celebration 'Go!' event, held at the Madejski Stadium. The event celebrated the success of the young recruits who had successfully completed the programme, and now have the skills, confidence and self-belief that had previously eluded them.
