The 'Get on Track' programme recruits an array of youngsters who have different needs and each individual is sure to gain a lifelong benefit in the way that suits them most. For some, 'Get on Track' gives them that boost to go the extra mile and shine in their environment. This was certainly the case for Tobi Anjorin, a 17 year old from south-east London who lives with her parents, one brother and sister. Tobi goes to Christ the King St Mary's College in Sidcup. She studies Maths, Economics, ICT and Politics.
When the Trust got in touch with Tobi she was on a 6 week holiday feeling a little bit lost as to how she should spend her time off. Tobi is a positive person so she saw the opportunity and decided to give it a go, surprising herself at how much she enjoyed it. Tobi was particularly impressed by the quality of the mentors and how helpful they were.
Tobi said: "I felt like I could talk to them about anything." She gained leadership skills which helped her greatly in becoming an ambassador for the college. She felt that she had done all the necessary training during the 'Get on Track' programme to take on that role at college. The programme introduced Tobi to the work place which in turn gave her an understanding at what she could excel in.
After discussions with partner Morgan Hunt, Tobi was given the opportunity to complete one week work experience at Morgan Hunt's offices. Tobi not was surprised at how much she enjoyed the office atmosphere but also learnt how to use and improve her communications skills. Tobi said: "I learnt to multi-task and felt confident that I could do anything that gets thrown at me." The Trust and Morgan Hunt are delighted to have offered her this opportunity and are looking to help her further.
The highlight for Tobi was when she was given the chance to work with a group of kids at Burgess Park. She planned for the session with the rest of the team and despite the rain they still managed to come up with a successful plan.
Tobi would definitely recommend the 'Get on Track' programme as she believes it will give participants new skills, help find talents they didn't think they had as well as being able to work with amazing mentors and obtain a certificate at the end of it.
