Invited by Sarah Brown, Dame Kelly joined a glittering array of top British talent including world renowned author, JK Rowling and Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson in a private dinner at Number 10 Downing Street.
And the fairy tale did not stop there: after the dinner, the spouses and guests joined G20 leaders for coffee and Dame Kelly had the opportunity meet The President himself. On such a historic occasion it was fantastic to see leading stars from the world of sport feature in the ‘Best of British’ guest list.
Dame Kelly said: “ It was a true honour for me to be invited to the dinner by Sarah Brown and to have the opportunity to meet so many high powered people from around the world. If someone had told me that one day, I would have the opportunity to sit next to the first lady of the United State of America and meet people who have the chance to really change the world, I would have thought it was April fools!"
Julie Whelan, CEO of the DKH Legacy Trust said: “ We are very proud of the fact that Dame Kelly, as a sporting role model was given this opportunity, and it testament not only to Kelly’s achievements on the track, but also the fantastic work she has done and is doing in her own charity and many others. It reinforces to us the power that sport has to influence, and how crucial the work of Kelly’s Trust is in harnessing the talents of retiring athletes to make a difference to others”
